220 Mystery Crochet Along (CAL) January 220

It is rather fun sometimes to make something from the directions without knowing what you are making. This month’s CAL features less than 220 yards of worsted weight yarn and is something that is wearable by a woman.

Here is the yarn I chose (leftover from a shawl I made last year)-

Rosamund Headscarf

image

Inspired by the Bohemian look worn by Lady Edith in Downton Abbey during her love affair with Michael Gregson, this design came out of the desire to utilize as much of my stash as possible, while making something beautiful and useful. This simple headscarf is classic in its overall design and is a great first project in broomstick lace.

If you have never made broomstick lace, check out some of the great video tutorials on YouTube. Once you get the hang of it, it is quick and easy!

Materials:
At least 100 yards of a DK weight yarn (I used Patons Bamboo Silk in apricot that was left over from another project)
H hook (5.00 mm)
U.S. 35 needle (19.0 mm)
Yarn needle

Chain 10.
Skip the first chain and single crochet in the back loops only (9).

Row 1
Create 9 loops for broomstick lace (don’t turn).

Row 2
Chain once in the first group of 3 loops to connect them together, and then chain two more times. This is followed by 2 half double crochet (HDC) in the same three loops, 3 HDC in the next group of 3 loops. 3 HDC in the final group of 3 loops.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until the headband is the desired length.
Finish with a row of single crochet in the back loops and finish off.
Weave in loose ends. Block if desired.
